Preliminary Evaluation: Learner Response

1)I will be happy with a C grade and nothing under.
2)I will improve the dialogue by making it clear and efficient. It most be important in the scene to have a good conversation shown as it communicates to the audience what is going on.
3)Revise media language/terms and complete shot list, storyboard and the schedule.

E4
Channel history
Began broadcasting on January 18, 2001, retransmitting American series such as Friends, Smallville and The Cleveland Show as well as previously emitted British series from Channel 4 including Shameless and Hollyoaks. E4 receive kudos for their quality of production however the content generates controversy due to the reinforcement of negative stereotypes of particularly lower-class young adults in urban London areas such as Hackney. E4 is primarily known for comedies and dramas making them an entertainment destination for a cutting edge young audience.
Notable successes
Own production by E4 includes teen drama Skins, The Inbetweeners student sitcom or drama series Misfits. Other shows such as Made in Chelsea have received successful reception and gained a mass audience. E4 also won channel of the year at The Broadcast Awards in Feb 2011. The programmes aired have been praised for the originality and successful attempt at appealing to their target audience for effectively empathising by recreating storylines relevant to modern culture. This encourages the idea for my television show to incorporate themes and ideas recognisable and relevant to younger audiences of today and effectively fulfil the intention to entertain.
Target audience
E4 is recognisable as the top converting channel for Adults 16-34, Women 16-34 and ABC1 16-34s. On top of this it has a young and upmarket viewing profile, with:

No more Page 3

'No More Page 3'.
What is the video about?

The video is about stereotypes that are created like woman aren't legible or aren't physically able to play sports like men. They also showed how woman in magazines and newspapers are 'manufactured' and always try to make themselves look good and care about their image.

"Our volunteers were cutting out pictures for 5 1/2 hours and in that time we found no sportswoman featured in their sports pages. Not one. We may not have got round to every single edition (the rules of the experiment were if we cut one photo out of an edition we’d cut every photo out of that edition, but we’d stop when the wall was full) so perhaps we missed the one or two images in their extensive coverage of women in the Commonwealth Games and Wimbledon tennis, but honestly, we were as surprised as The Sun to find no women in their sports pages."
Women are seen as objects in society and aren't given much respect from a feminists' point of view. However, the fact that they are in those magazines and newspapers showing that explicit

Preliminary Evaluation

We were give a preliminary task for media where we had to create a short 30 second video clip. The preliminary task involves filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue .Which involved having one 180 degree shot which was to show that two character were talking, a match on action. Our video was about a student in toilet during  a lesson and another student walking in the toilet and they give each other stares that are not polite and so the have some sort of dialogue. Which end up with one of them storming out.My group consisted of ,Mikeal, Kunal, Mansour and Ahmed the name of our production was called “Conflict”.

WWW:Our story line was good as a narrative and their could be a real story line there.Furthermore we use the shot reveres shot well during the conversation where one character is shown looking at another character (often off-screen), and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character. Also  another thing is that our audio was very clear and dialogue from the script was very smooth and wasn't rushed. Another thing is that we had clear sound bridge when Ahmed was walking into the toilets .while he was walking we showed Mansour washing his hands and then when back to Ahmed and still the tap was still running which created an unusual atmosphere. Then finally what we did well is that we had good match on action shots when Mansour turns on the tap  and when Ahmed walks through the door. The match on action shots were very smooth and clear.

EBI:

Our 180 degree rule was done properly. The dialogue in the toilet didn't have a clear 180 degree rule as we shot it one by one and we should shot the conversation of them by  a medium shoot with them together in a same shot.the placements of the characters was confusing for the audience.Another thing we could’ve improved is that the conversation was a bit forced because Mansour asks Ahmed "Are you kool" and he replies with "Yeah" then he says "DON'T ASK ME QUESTION".This shows that he is a bit confused and abit edgy and we don't want that reaction. Also the 180 degree rule was broken when carrying out the shot/reverse shot. This happened because when filming our shot/reverse shot, instead of switching from the left side of one person to the right side of the other, we just filmed from one left side to the other.Another even better if would be if we had shot ahmed coming through the 2 toilet doors.as the toilets dont have one door we just made it seem that way.but for real it has 2 doors and so by showing the match on action on one may have been a bit confusing the people who know the school well.Adding the the 2 doors would have built more tension to the atmosphere.

MEST2 Research and planning

Youngers
The first Tv programme that i will be discussing is the opening scene of Youngers but its put in as a mini trailer to attract attention. As you can see the scene is very bright and full of energy you can recognise each of the characters sort of person they are going to be.The scene opens up on the 2 main characters and one of them being very sociable and the other one is anxious and frightened.they are told to come talk 3 other characters who are the "Mandem on the wall" who the audience at home are familiar with that type of slang.they are in a suburban estate. Then shots are medium shot of the 5 characters seeing the conversation flow and main 2 characters have close up to see their reactions as they are going to collect their GCSE results and the Mandem are saying they dont need to.By this we can tell that the mandem on the wall are the comedians in the show and Yemi is the serious one who really is focused on his future.however the audience may be concerned what sort role jay plays as his confident and happy.so the narrative goes on for us to know hat they get in their results and what happens from their.they start asking question such as what if yemi does well and jay doesn't,what are they going to do then.
Inbetweeners
This is the opening scene of the well known tv series inbetweeners and the opening science sees the begging of the main characters life.as he narrates what happen and how he ended up here. The editiing is a montage of what the seasons contains and what the audience could expect so they are excited.the main character will is walking into a new school and is looking scared and their a medium shot of his face to show his face.then he is in a meeting room with 3 other new student or even "geeks".By this we can see that he is not your ordinary geek as he feel uncomfortable by his facial expression and doesnt agree with everything the head teacher says. The setting changes as he goes to his first class and immediately gets a opportunity to show the others that his cool and then it back fires as its a but comical you feel sorry for him as he is slagging off Mr.Gilbert and he is the behind him.Th narrative starts off as Simon is told to look after him and he gets angry and tries to imply that his a geek and wouldn't fit in this public school.

Dependcy Theory

1)I use the media for information Im into sports and i like reading about how my favourite team Liverpool is doing now and then. Also i use it for entertainment as of im on many social networking site, like twitter and instagram. I go on their to use up my free time and relax and laugh. But im not narrow minded as i want to know what's going on in the world.

2)We are dependent on the media as we get all of our information their .if the media says we are all going to die today most of the whole world would believe them as we believe they are never wrong and they give us true information.

3)No as our main source is BBC news and they have been here for a long time. But their are something that has changed as news gets around more easier such as the Ebola situation. The situation was taken way out of propertion as ebola is a diesease from West Africa.

Uses and gratification

One influential tradition in media research is referred to as 'uses and gratifications' occasionally needs and gratifications. This approach focuses on why people use particular media rather than on content. In contrast to the concern of the 'media effects' tradition with what media do to people

Blumber & Katz
-Diversion is a way to get out of your real life by entertainment.EastEnders is a prime time TV Soap that is watched by a large audience. It helps people with diversion because this show consist of dramatic and emotional scenes with a flowing story line. The audience focus on it so closely that they forget the lines of their own reality which helps them deal with day to day problems.

-Surveillance is keeping an eye on people to get information on how they live.
-Personal identity is celebrity you enjoy and have a link with your peers about it.
-Personal relationship is feeling something for a character of some sorts. in some cases Big brother helps people build emotional affection to characters. This is because the audience will be watching a bunch of people living inside one house and therefore, some members of the audience may start to feel a particular way about one of the many characters.

Audience Theory

Responding to Daily Mail article - Violent Video Games

1)The news articles taps into the concept of the hypodermic needle theory through the fact that the single media text has injected an idea into a mass audience (all of the people who read the article).

http://www.psmag.com/navigation/books-and-culture/violent-video-games-bad-behavior-evidence-mounts-74372

This article gives evidence that violent video games can brainwash the person playing in being a more violent person. Its of 127 students in Italy play  GTA IV and then take a test of normal questions of what they would do in real life situations. All their answers were violent based or towards cheating.

My opinion is that video games are not responsible for children bad behavior. Its up to the child's up bringing and how they have being treated.Video games is a way of  releasing stress for teenagers.Maybe their lives are stressful and hard and they need a way out.in my opinion i believe that video games are a good thing for teenagers and also adults.

2)This feature relates to the two-step flow model because an audience, which is the opinion follower. Is influenced by the opinion leader someone they admire or in higher authority.E.g BBC News reporter.
